REX Texture Direct 4 is the latest version of the acclaimed Texture Direct series by flight sim veterans Real Environment Xtreme.

Not only do you get additional weather texture customization options such as low mid- and high level clouds, 14 types of lightening, and an array of thunder effects with Texture Direct 4, but it is jam-packed with over 16G of additional texture files!

Everything is covered from runway dirt and tyre marks to detailed taxiways. Also included are REX’s high quality water rendering effects allowing you to reach the absolute height of realism in your FSX: Steam Edition experience.

Features

  • Ability to select and install textures individually and/or create custom ‘themes’ to install a full suite of textures instantly.
  • Ability for users to select weather scenarios or enter airport code to have texture themes generated based upon weather conditions.
  • New unique types of cloud base structures.
  • Low/Mid-level 3D clouds, including Stratus, Cumulonimbus, Cumulus, Stratocumulus, Altostratus and Altocumulus.
  • High-level clouds, including Cirrus, Cirrostratus and Cirrocumulus.
  • 14 types of lightning: IC, CC and CG.
  • Worldwide tropical water classification fix, eliminating most of the core repetitive texture tiling effect. Water boundaries blend much more realistically.
  • Ultra-realistic airport environments made from custom, high-definition aerial photography.
  • Give default airports in FSX: Steam Edition the payware-style treatment, from light to heavy use runways, taxiways and pavement markings! Highly detailed textures, including runway textured lighting encasements. Originating from HD source photography, runway tire markings are properly scaled within the simulator creating a more realistic viewpoint. Runways with light or heavy wear… your choice, over 32 to choose from, the highest definition textures with the most fidelity on the market.
  • The tire marking build-up is fascinating when using the heavy use runway option. Many types of runway grooving and material selection.
  • Runway lighting encasement textures added to runways to give more depth and a more properly scaled feel.
  • Dirty and soiled runway markings at all airport runways worldwide! No more blown out white marks interfering with your immersion.
  • Runway markings now support larger aircraft.
  • 28 amazingly detailed taxiways developed from all types of concrete, asphalt and bitumen.
  • Runway and taxiway detailed planar bump-map effects.
  • Spectacular terrain bump-mapping effects, modelled from different materials.
  • Beautiful photo-realistic skies sampled from many locations around the world.
  • Properly balanced terrain light and shadow values during dawn and dusk.
  • Smoother transitional algorithms during dawn and dusk times.
  • Realistic corresponding haze layer values when encountering the proper WX.
  • 23 types of runway edge and taxiway lighting, some with simulated ground glow.
  • Extremely detailed and enhanced ground rain effect.
  • Realistic dirty airport parking and jetway marks.
  • Easy to read, enhanced airport signage. Different lighting conditions dictate the range of colours from yellow to orange and red to amber.
  • Sun, corona, glow, flares and special effects, giving the most realistic renditions of atmospheric conditions. Panning around your aircraft at different angles during beginning or end of day will yield just how dynamic these effects can be. Rendered for DX9, DX10 and DX11.
  • Environment sound effects. Vastly improved in/out cockpit precipitation and thunder sounds.

About This Content
Aerosoft’s Diamond DA20-100 Katana 4X is proof of the old saying ’what looks good, flies good’. The Katana is a cutting-edge GA aircraft made out of fibre-reinforced composites. Originally designed to be a training aircraft, it is primarily used by private pilots who enjoy the wonderful flight dynamics and its economical running costs.

The FSX: Steam Edition version of the DA20 gives you the full owner’s experience as you do the maintenance and cleaning, and even decide what type of oil to use.

The DA20 for FSX: Steam Edition comes with three modes:

Realistic – Wear and damage can be encountered and will be stored. Fluids will be used and the aircraft can get dirty. Maintenance and services are available. Flight hours and landings will be counted and special features unlocked.

Simple – No wear and damage will be simulated. Aircraft stays clean. Flight hours and landings are not locked. No special features.

Instructor – Aircraft is as new every reload. Wear and damage can be encountered or be triggered, but will not be stored. Fluids will be used and the aircraft can get dirty. Flight hours and landings will not be counted and no special features are available. Instructor Panels are available.

Additionally, the airframe is fully operational with canopy animations including opening cowling, fuel tank covers and oil access doors, wear and tear, and your aircraft can also get dirty as you fly.

The level of realism in the Rotax 9125 engine is more than ample. You can even hand start the engine via the prop! The Katana is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics, as well as a fully simulated carburettor and fuel system.

This, combined with both sound and visual effects (every operational switch has its own sound), makes Aerosoft’s Diamond DA20-100 4X a shining addition to your FSX: Steam Edition fleet.

Following intensive internal and public beta testing, we are pleased to announce the release of the latest FSX: Steam Edition update version 62615.

Important! Before opening FSX: Steam Edition, we strongly recommend you take the following steps:

  • Back up your non-Steam add-on content – In the event that your add-on content needs to be re-installed, we strongly recommend keeping a back-up of non-Steam content.
  • Back up your scenery.cfg files – We also recommend you back up your scenery.cfg file, especially those of you with an extensive scenery collection.
You can find your FSX: Steam Edition scenery.cfg file here: C:\Users\(system name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
  • FSUIPC – FSUIPC is a piece of software that certain third party add-on products use to interface with FSX:SE. Because of the way this interface works, each new version of FSX:SE requires an update to FSUIPC. If you have any third party add-ons that use FSUIPC, please make sure you have updated to the latest version of that software when you install 62615, otherwise these add-ons will not work. You can get the latest version of FSUIPC from the SimFlight forum at: http://forum.simflight.com/forum/142-download-links/

The player-visible contents of this update are:

  • Improvements for using modified Scenery.cfg files which could previously result in a 1007 error when installing new scenery add-ons. Please note due to the highly customisable nature of FSX: SE it is going to be impossible for us to attempt to deal with all forms of malformatting in the Scenery.cfg files. For this reason we have also provide an option to reset the Scenery.cfg file to the default version.
  • Fixed font file loading not being VFS-aware. Font files associated with add-ons should now work as expected.
  • Fixed multiplayer invites not working if you invite a friend to a Private game.
  • Improved mouse cursor slow-down over complex cockpits.Although we have made some optimizations to this code, players may still experience some reduction in framerates when using highly complex cockpit models. This is because such models are pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the game engine.
  • Improved optimisation of installing/uninstalling add-on content through the Steam platform.

Because this update includes changes to the way Steam optimises FSX:SE add-on content available from the Steam store, some add-on content you have purchased may also may reinstall. This means that the size of the update will vary depending upon how many Steam add-ons you have installed. If you are just running the core simulator without add-ons, your download will be approximately 22.9 MB. This may increase up to 4.0GB if you own all of our FSX: Steam Edition add-ons.

If you experience any issues, please contact our support team at http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/Core/Default/Index

Thanks and happy flying!

Please note many of the changes and fixes in this update will be seamless to FSX: SE players but will be of great benefit to developers looking to bring their add-ons to FSX: SE.

Dovetail Games is pleased to announce that today (23/04/2015) we have released a new update for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.

The update will download and install automatically through Steam. You may need to restart Steam if the process does not start automatically. The full changelog for the update can be found below.

Changelog

Offline Mode:

  • Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition can now be used in Steam’s Offline Mode. Note that multiplayer features cannot be accessed whilst in this mode.

Multiplayer Fixes:

  • VoIP communication is now using the correct device identified in “Settings”.
  • During mission-based Multiplayer flights, if the host has activated the “Anti-Cheat” flag, users who have modified their aircraft are immediately disconnected without affecting other users.
  • The Steam “Invite to Game” feature will now work by buffering the request until the user enters the Multiplayer menu.
  • Players are prompted to use the Steam Client to invite a user from the Multiplayer menu to become a friend on Steam.
  • On the Multiplayer Session and lobby screens, the text in the “Weather” section is now aligned correctly.

User Interface Updates:

  • If “Show Saved Flights” is enabled, the time stamps on the saved flight data will now show the correct time the flight was saved.
  • The HTML content in displayed in some windows (e.g. tutorials, mission help, etc) now uses Internet Explorer in IE9 compatibility mode, rather than IE8.
  • On the Multiplayer Session screen, the host’s user name is now shown.
  • On the Multiplayer Session screen, “In Briefing Room” is now shown prior to the session starting .
  • The fallback mission image has been updated for FSX:SE. This is only displayed if a mission does not provide it’s own image.
  • New Community page added. One of the things that you’ll notice after the update is that every time you start FSX: Steam Edition, it will display the community news page. We’re doing this to keep you up to date with all the latest news, patches, developments and offers for FSX: Steam Edition. We want to keep you informed of the great things we are doing

Stability Updates:

  • Potential causes of the terrain.dll crashes experienced by some users has been corrected. A theoretical deadlock where a game may hang for several minutes before either crashing or being terminated by Windows has been corrected. This is a potential cause of the terrain.dll crashes experienced by some users.
  • Some compatibility issues encountered by third party add-ons that use SimConnect have been resolved
  • Fixed crash in G3D.dll caused by certain add-ons
  • Fixed crashes in UI.dll
  • Kneeboards & Checklists now display correctly
  • The configuration file AFFINITYMASK value is now correctly calculated for all Core i3, i5 and i7 generation Intel CPUs.

Support for problem analysis

  • We now include some additional debugging info that can be captured by the DebugView tool to help with Host Disconnection errors. If a player experiences the “Host has lost connection to the host” problem, they can download and install the DebugView tool, then start DebugView before running FSX:SE. If a “Host has lost connection” message is received the log output from DebugView can then be sent for analysis.
  • Added support for Mini-Dumps. If you are now unfortunate enough to experience a game crash, the system will now attempt to save a mini-dump to disk. These mini-dumps are automatically uploaded to Steam and allow us to obtain debug information about the crash that has occurred. No private or user information is contained within a mini-dump. Using mini-dumps, we can understand what has gone wrong and this greatly speeds up our ability to provide fixes and improvements.

Support for Xpack version of SimConnect:

  • Xpack, the version of SimConnect that was supplied with the FSX Acceleration Pack, has always been delivered as part of FSX:SE, we are just now installing this by default rather than making it an optional install. This is to provide additional compatibility with some third party add-ons.

Known issues:

  • During our extensive community beta testing we discovered one problem which we still need to fix. However, rather than delay the release of the update, there is a work-around for you to use until an additional fix is released.
  • Problem description: If the host of a multiplayer session sends an invite to a friend to participate in a private game, the invitation request will fail.
  • As a work-a-round, players are advised to do one of the following:
  • (a) Create a public game with a password. When sending the player the invitation, follow it up with a direct message that provides the password for them to use.
  • (b) Create a private game. Send your friend a direct message with your public IP address that your friend can use in the Direct Connect screen to connect to your server.
