Our second community update has now been cleared for take-off! The update is approximately 205 MB, and should download automatically once you have opened Steam. Here is a quick reminder of what to expect this week:

  • Fix crash related to use of Sidewinder 2 joysticks. Please note force feedback has been disabled for these joysticks.
  • ATC can now be closed with the hotkey.
  • Comms widget is now auto-closed if it doesn’t contain tabs.
  • Server name and password dialogues now sort correctly with flight planner in Multiplayer mode
  • Various localization fixes
  • Various crash fixes

We have had to delay a performance improvement for players using full screen and multi-monitor set ups due to the need for further testing. You can, however, expect to see it in a future update.

Today we’ve made our fourth test build update for Train Sim World (Build #55) available for you to test. As we have for the previous test builds, please try this through the weekend, and if positive we’ll apply the patch to the main game early next week. We’d like to give a big thank you to all of you who have consistently and constructively offered your feedback and encouragement over the last few weeks.

Here are the items addressed in Build #55:

New Features
  • You are now able to change the opacity of the center ‘reticle’ dot using CTRL + 5 (0%, 50%, 100%).
Optimisation
  • This build contains a number of general optimisation improvements.
  • Optimised concurrency settings to engine audio.
  • Optimised concurrency of audio tracks being played because of running sounds.
Load/Save Issues
  • Fixed an issue where a red stop signal refuses to change on save and reload.
  • Fixed an issue where restarting a scenario after save and reload causes signal priority to fail.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the distance walked and driven to be reset on save and reload.
  • Fixed an issue where objectives would disappear on save-reload while in Service Mode.
  • Fixed an issue where saving a game while in the turntable cabin might result in player going through the roof on reload.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the Dispatcher Core to fail on reloading a saved game.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the player to be moved to inappropriate areas when saving near to the rear of a train consist whilst moving forward.
  • Fixed an issue that would render the turntable unusable when saving a game.
  • Fixed an issue where saving while in the turntable cabin causes player to spawn outside when reloading.
  • Fixed an issue where the character position changes on reload using the turntable.
  • Fixed an issue when saving and reloading, the refuelling hose and other objects disappear completely.
  • Fixed an issue where reloading while refuelling causes the hose to revert back to its stand.
  • Fixed an issue where the state of the CutOut switch is not correctly reinstated when loading from a save game.
Rail Vehicles
  • Several general improvements to the braking System.
  • Fixed the chain animation on the SD40-2 so that it now animates in sync with the brake cylinder.
  • The End of Train Device now flashes correctly.
  • Fixed the issue that prevented the AC4400CW from being shut down using the emergency cut-off switch.
Gameplay
  • Adjusted speed limits on two troublesome signals at Sand Patch Summit to resolve a number of speed limit related issues in scenarios.
  • The Center dot ‘reticle’ no longer reverts when using the map.
  • Addressed the final objectives in Cumberland Charge to improve the flow of the scenario.
  • Fixed the broken consist in Ice and Snow.
  • The Voice Over should now pause when the game is paused.
Audio
  • Track joint audio has been improved with additional mixing/filtering as per customer feedback.
  • Dynamic Brake audio has been improved with additional mixing/filtering as per customer feedback.
  • Compressor Pressure Relief Valve audio added to the AC4400CW as per customer feedback.
  • Fixed the road vehicle audio that would continue consuming system resources despite being out of range.
Known Issues
  • There may still be some Save/Load Issues present. We are continuing our work in this area and would greatly appreciate additional feedback from you on this.
  • There may still be some issues present with vehicle airbrake systems.

The Train Sim World update is available for you to test on Steam. To subscribe to the Update 4 Test Build, follow these instructions:

Subscribing to Test Builds
  1. Load Steam and navigate to your Game Library.
  2. Right-click on Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul and select Properties.
  3. Select the Betas Tab and from the drop-down box, select u4tb from the list.
  4. Click Close and Steam will automatically begin to download the update.

Today we have made our third update (Build #52) for Train Sim World available to everyone. There is no need to subscribe to a test build as this will update the default installation. If you’re currently subscribed to a test build, you’ll be automatically deferred to the main build. We’d like to give a big thank you to all of you who have consistently and constructively offered your feedback and encouragement.

Here are the items addressed in Build #52:

Load/Save Issues

 

  • Further work has been done on identifying entities not correctly persisting and restoring state.
  • Identified and fixed the cause of some voice overs occasionally not playing on restore.
Optimisations
  • This build contains the first of our multi-threading improvements. In this build, SimuGraph® will use as many CPU cores as are available, to concurrently evaluate SimuGraph processing on all rail vehicles. This reduces the FPS impact when you sit in a locomotive, and should deliver a greater benefit if more cores are available. We are continuing work in this area.
  • Improvement to non-player train physics performance.
  • Other optimisation improvements, particularly when interacting with the AC4400CW IFDs.
  • Reviewed and corrected lighting setup on rail vehicles.
  • Changed foliage MiP handling to improve the distant view and deliver a performance improvement.

Keyboard Support

  • We have added support for a wide array of International Keyboards.

Rail Vehicles

  • General improvements to the brake pipes.
  • Corrected the Ditch light functionality on the AC4400CW and SD40-2.

Gameplay

  • Fixed an issue that would cause you to Crash to Desktop while attempting to tab a signal in Cumberland Charge. Additional guidance on this scenario is listed under Known Issues.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause you to Crash to Desktop when loading the last save point in Helping Hand.
  • Fixed an issue that would prevent you from completing the Fully Fuelled scenario.

Audio

  • Missing coupling audio added.
  • Engine audio improvements.
  • Horn audio improvements.
  • Improvements to the Cab Occlusion system .

Known Issues

  • At the end of the Cumberland Charge scenario, extra vigilance should be paid to ensure your train is following the light blue line indicated on the 2D Map, as your enter Cumberland Yard. This may require more switches than those indicated, to be changed in order to reach the correct destination.
  • There are still some instances where Saved sessions fail to initialise properly on reloading. We are working to resolve all remaining instances. We would advise you avoid using the Save/Load feature for the time-being.

The Train Sim World update will download automatically on Steam. If you are not receiving this update, please double-check that Steam has correctly unsubscribed you from test builds:

Unsubscribing from Test Builds

  1. Load Steam and navigate to your Game Library.
  2. Right-click on Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul and select Properties.
  3. Select the Betas Tab and from the drop-down box, select None – Opt out of all beta programs from the list.
  4. Click Close and allow Steam to update.
  5. If Steam fails to update, please select Exit from the Steam menu and then relaunch Steam. If you still do not receive the update, please submit a ticket to our Support Team[dovetailgames.kayako.com].

The Train Sim World Update 3 (Build #52) will be approximately 253 MB in size.

From the questions you posed to us, we understood that there were a few subjects that we needed to respond to immediately and these are covered in our video and below. If your question has not yet been addressed, please bear with me; I will answer many more of your queries as we move forward over the next few weeks.

How do I know which version of TS2017 I own?
There are three parts to this question:

  • If you do not own any of the routes featured in TS2017 or only some of the routes featured, then you will receive the basic upgrade to TS2017 only. Note that the basic upgrade to TS2017 does not include Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta.
  • If you own the four routes featured in TS2017 Standard Edition, you will automatically receive the upgrade to this edition. For reference, the four routes are: Hamburg – Lübeck, North Jersey Coast Line, South Wales Coastal: Bristol – Cardiff andLGV: Marseille – Avignon. Note that TS2017 Standard Edition does not include Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta.
  • If you own the five routes featured in TS2017 Pioneers Edition, you will automatically receive the upgrade to this edition. Your Questions

Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul & TS2017 Standard/Pioneers Edition Backward Compatibility

  • (Q) “Will old addons be compatible to the new version?” from Martin Dobmeier
  • (A) TS2017 and Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul are entirely separate products built on completely different technology foundations, and so we are unable to provide backward compatibility between them. In order to create a truly next-generation train simulation experience, we needed to build core features such as vehicle physics, engine propulsion, signalling and dispatcher systems from the ground up to more accurately reflect their real-world counterparts.
  • Your Train Simulator 2017 experience will be completely unaffected by the release of Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul and will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future.

Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul – Multiplayer Feature

  • (Q) “Will there be multiplayer?” from TheGamer 567
  • (A) Multiplayer is still heavily in development and will therefore not feature in the Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta. However, we are planning for multiplayer to become a key feature of the Train Sim World experience and we’ll have more details on this in the coming weeks.

Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul – Developer & Player Creation Tools

  • (Q) “Will we be able to create our own routes when your new simulator gets released?” from Thomas Ølmheim
  • (A) The tools that will allow players and partnered developers to make routes and other content are currently still in development. While we understand how much many of you like to enhance your hobby with our creativity tools, it’s important that these tools are built carefully, with the assistance of your feedback, to ensure they are as powerful and intuitive as we all need them to be.

Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul – Platforms

  • (Q) “I do want to play train simulator on my Xbox one. Is that still gonna happen?” from Devon Satchell
  • (A) The Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta will debut on Windows PC via Steam this December. The final version will release on Windows PC via Steam in February with an Xbox One version expected within the same window. We’ll have more information on this in the coming weeks.

THE RIVIERA LINE: EXETER TO KINGSWEAR


Command the mighty Castle Class in the golden age of steam on the busy Cornish Riviera Line.

The line is renowned for its proximity to the south coast of England and joins the southern beaches just south of Starcross, showcasing stunning scenery and ocean views. Test your skills on this line with the Castle Class or GWR 4073, heralded as the most powerful locomotive when introduced in 1923. Set in the 1950s, this route is a challenging drive with some heavy steam machinery ready for even the most experienced of drivers.

WEST RHINE: COLOGNE TO KOBLENZ


Don’t be taken by the beautiful landscape of the Rhineland-Palatinate, the Cologne to Koblenz line will keep all drivers on their toes.

Running parallel to the west bank of the Rhine for much of the journey, the route gives passengers spectacular views across the West Rhine area of West Germany. The route forms the southern stretch of Deutsche Bahn’s RE5 ‘Rhein Express’ service, which runs from Emerrich in the north west to Koblenz. Hourly intercity and ICE services, Regio passenger trains and various freight operations also frequent the line. Even the occasional heritage special can be seen in between the busy commuter services. Medieval towns and castles along the line, plus river barges passing serenely by, emind passengers of the historic area they travel through between the two densely urban cities of Cologne and Koblenz. Large freight yards at Bruhl and Bonn-West are also well-known features, as well as the DB Museum at Koblenz-Lützel, which occupies a former depot linked to the main line.

SHERMAN HILL


Haul thousands of tons of cargo over Sherman Hill Summit in the legendary Union Pacific Gas Turbine.

Sherman Hill is a fantastic North American freight route running 60 miles between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming. The route’s tough grades resulted in the Union Pacific Railroad building new heavy freight locomotives to work the line. Drive this line with the UP GTELs, nicknamed “Big Blows” for their high-pitched scream. These consisted of three semi-permanently coupled vehicles, the leading A-Unit, the turbine housing B-Unit and a Fuel Tender. The turbines ran from the beginning of the 1960s until the end of the 1970s.

NORFOLK SOUTHERN COAL DISTRICT
EXCLUSIVE TO TRAIN SIMULATOR 2016 ON STEAM

Mile-long coal trains and distinctive street running set apart the beautiful Mon Line, running through the heart of Pennsylvania.

At the heart of Pennsylvania’s coal country, the rural Mon Line is today owned by Norfolk Southern with CSX Transporation also having trackage rights. Coal mines dominate the route, with important facilities at Bailey Mine and Emerald Mine connecting with a staging yard at West Brownsville from where coal trains continue on their way to power stations or to ports for export. More than 20 million tons of coal is annually transported along the line, much of it to Loveridge Secondary where it is transhipped from rail to river barges. Following intensive internal and public beta testing, we are pleased to announce the release of the latest FSX: Steam Edition update version 62615.

Important! Before opening FSX: Steam Edition, we strongly recommend you take the following steps:

  • Back up your non-Steam add-on content – In the event that your add-on content needs to be re-installed, we strongly recommend keeping a back-up of non-Steam content.
  • Back up your scenery.cfg files – We also recommend you back up your scenery.cfg file, especially those of you with an extensive scenery collection.
    You can find your FSX: Steam Edition scenery.cfg file here: C:\Users\(system name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
  • FSUIPC – FSUIPC is a piece of software that certain third party add-on products use to interface with FSX:SE. Because of the way this interface works, each new version of FSX:SE requires an update to FSUIPC. If you have any third party add-ons that use FSUIPC, please make sure you have updated to the latest version of that software when you install 62615, otherwise these add-ons will not work. You can get the latest version of FSUIPC from the SimFlight forum at: http://forum.simflight.com/forum/142-download-links/

The player-visible contents of this update are:

  • Improvements for using modified Scenery.cfg files which could previously result in a 1007 error when installing new scenery add-ons. Please note due to the highly customisable nature of FSX: SE it is going to be impossible for us to attempt to deal with all forms of malformatting in the Scenery.cfg files. For this reason we have also provide an option to reset the Scenery.cfg file to the default version.
  • Fixed font file loading not being VFS-aware. Font files associated with add-ons should now work as expected.
  • Fixed multiplayer invites not working if you invite a friend to a Private game.
  • Improved mouse cursor slow-down over complex cockpits.Although we have made some optimizations to this code, players may still experience some reduction in framerates when using highly complex cockpit models. This is because such models are pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the game engine.
  • Improved optimisation of installing/uninstalling add-on content through the Steam platform.

Because this update includes changes to the way Steam optimises FSX:SE add-on content available from the Steam store, some add-on content you have purchased may also may reinstall. This means that the size of the update will vary depending upon how many Steam add-ons you have installed. If you are just running the core simulator without add-ons, your download will be approximately 22.9 MB. This may increase up to 4.0GB if you own all of our FSX: Steam Edition add-ons.

TS2016 is just around the corner and there have been many questions raised about what happens on launch day. Many of these questions are relating to whether TS2016 will be a free upgrade or not.

TS2016 is being delivered in much the same way as it has been every other year. The only difference this year is instead of saving up all the patches and extra features to give you them in one go at the annual release – features such as TrackIR, Enhanced External Controller Functionality and the numerous fixes and updates – we’ve been rolling them out to you the minute they were ready throughout the year. So this means that you have already been upgraded to the latest technical standard for Train Simulator throughout the year. The launch of the final product contains the biggest package of exclusive content we’ve ever delivered. This year you’ll be getting everything that’s listed under “What’s Included” below.

TS2016: WHAT’S INCLUDED

Throughout the last year, we’ve been steadily rolling out updates and improvements to the core software so you could get these sooner rather than wait for the full release in September. You have already been upgraded to the technical standard for Train Simulator. These improvements include key features such as TrackIR support and the Enhanced External Controller support, and many more fixes and updates.

We’ve been watching the community since our last announcement, and we’re really pleased to see so much discussion around our recent announcement of TS2016. We’ve also seen some really interesting ideas appearing, a few of which have caused a little confusion across the community. In order to help the ongoing dialogue, we thought we would compile our top 10 ‘myth-busting’ facts:

1 – I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BUY TS2016

ED: We would love you to buy every version of Train Simulator! However, as always, there’s no obligation for you to buy TS2016 – but you’ll be missing out on some really great content and features!

2 – DTG DOESN’T CARE ABOUT WHAT WE WANT

ED: This couldn’t be further from the truth, we DO care. We wouldn’t be here without you! We’re always striving to do things better and sometimes there are good reasons why we are unable to take every piece of feedback on board, but rest assured, we do read your comments and take copious notes.

3 – I NEED TO BUY ALL MY DLC AGAIN

ED: Not at all. All of our locos and routes will work automatically in TS2016 in the same way they have always done.

4 – DTG WILL STOP MAKING DLC FOR TS2016 WHEN THE UE4® VERSION COMES OUT

ED: We’re really excited about the UE4®, next generation Train Simulator, but we’re also just as excited about TS2016. In fact we have a long term plan to make sure we continue to bring great content to everyone for the foreseeable future. We’re sure you’re going to love what we have planned!

5 – I HAVE SPENT X NUMBER OF MONTHS/YEARS WORKING ON MY ADD-ON FOR TRAIN SIMULATOR, IT’S NOW COMPLETELY USELESS AND I’VE WASTED MY TIME

ED: Not at all! Our Partner Team is standing by to talk to you when you’re ready to release your content. No matter how much time you’ve spent, it will never be wasted – we’ll give you as much, or as little, help as you feel you need to make sure you can release your content on Steam with the minimum of fuss. ED: In TS2016 we’ll be including some really interesting new features, game modes and exclusive content for you to enjoy. You’ll need to buy TS2016 to get access to all of this however. We’ll be revealing the exclusive new content to feature in TS2016 over the next few weeks. We’re certain you’ll love what we have in store for you!

8 – TS2016 IS THE UE4® VERSION

ED: We’re still working really hard on making the next generation, UE4®-based, Train Simulator as exciting as possible. But it’s not ready yet. Don’t worry though, we’ll be sharing the journey with you right here on Engine Driver. All of this means that TS2016 will be based on the same technology as Train Simulator 2015.

9 – THERE WILL BE NO FIXES FOR TS2015/TS2016 IN THE FUTURE

ED: We’re committed to making sure that whichever version of Train Simulator you own, we’ll continue to address known issues, for as long as it makes sense.

10 – MY DLC WON’T WORK WITH TS2016

ED: Don’t worry, all of your DLC will still work in TS2016!

Dovetail Games, the multi award-winning developer and publisher of a range of simulation games recently announced that it has agreed a partnership with flight simulation software publisher and developer Orbx Simulation Systems.

The partnership will enable Dovetail Games to publish new and existing Orbx add-on content for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition on Steam. Under this agreement, brand new Orbx content released by Dovetail Games will have a 90-day exclusivity period on Steam before being made available on other channels.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the upcoming Orbx releases for FSX: Steam Edition are optimized specifically for the Steam platform. This high-quality scenery will feature an automatic installation process via Steam, and will be completely self-contained without any dependencies on previous releases from Orbx.
