About This Content

Few aircraft define ‘stick and rudder’ flying more faithfully and distinctly than the Piper Cub. Aeroncas, Taylorcrafts, Stinsons, Luscombes and Cessnas are but refinements and alternatives to this flying legend.

Even if you have never actually seen a Cub in the real world (this is getting harder to do every year), and if aircraft are your thing, you may have a good idea of what a Cub is all about. Virtually every pilot has either flown a Cub or knows someone who has.

The most important thing this little airplane will bring to you is honest, true-to-life stick-and-rudder flying. This is often an experience pilots often forget after flying large, heavy, fast, complex aircraft. Backed by A2A Simulations’ cutting-edge Accu-Sim technology, you will be actively engaged in flying the J-3 Cub for nearly the entire duration of your flight. Even after flying it for a short time, you will feel your skills improve.

  • Flying qualities built by pilots with unprecedented stall and spin realism
  • Includes standard J-3 Cub, Tundra tires, Floats, and Skis (nine liveries)
  • Visual Real-Time Load Manager, with the ability to load fuel, oil, pilot, passenger and cargo in-game
  • In-cockpit pilot’s map for handy in-flight navigation
  • All models include A2A specialized materials with authentic metal effects
  • Accu-Sim physics creates an entirely new world including true wing, airframe, engine, ground, water, and internal systems behaviour
  • Passenger On Board adds a new dimension of piloting realism with an intelligent passenger that is aware of the surroundings, talks when appropriate, including being able to spot and call out traffic
  • Third generation Accu-Sound now allows for a direct connection to the Accu-Sim and FSX physics engine with airflow through the airframe, window, and door, structural creaks, bumps, jolts, etc. with 390 sounds in all
  • Piston combustion engine modelling – air comes in, it mixes with fuel and ignites, parts move, heat up, and all work in harmony to produce the most accurate combustion engine simulation available
  • Engine has an actual life – good piloting skills are rewarded with longer life and more reliable performance
  • New propeller physics means the propeller is constantly active and allows for both hand and air starting of the engine
  • Ground physics realistically rock your wings and buck your tail. Regular tires, skis, and large tundra tires all have their own distinctive ground handling benefits and limitations. Each aircraft comes with its own sound set which is tied in with the physics of the airframe
  • Water physics simulate waves, water drag, and creates an authentic ‘on the step’ experience
  • Total audible cockpit experience made with professional recordings from three actual Piper J-3 aircraft
  • Fuel system allows for an authentic primer system with fuel in lines, tank, and authentic gravity-fed fuel-air mixture
  • Third generation engine wear and oil system including an engine that sputters, spits, and runs rough when damaged
  • Both engine and airframe physically vibrate and shake, based on real world conditions
  • Advanced carburettor icing modelling, which is critical for the proper management of the Continental A-65-8 engine

Following intensive internal and public beta testing, we are pleased to announce the release of the latest FSX: Steam Edition update version 62615.

Important! Before opening FSX: Steam Edition, we strongly recommend you take the following steps:

  • Back up your non-Steam add-on content – In the event that your add-on content needs to be re-installed, we strongly recommend keeping a back-up of non-Steam content.
  • Back up your scenery.cfg files – We also recommend you back up your scenery.cfg file, especially those of you with an extensive scenery collection.
You can find your FSX: Steam Edition scenery.cfg file here: C:\Users\(system name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
  • FSUIPC – FSUIPC is a piece of software that certain third party add-on products use to interface with FSX:SE. Because of the way this interface works, each new version of FSX:SE requires an update to FSUIPC. If you have any third party add-ons that use FSUIPC, please make sure you have updated to the latest version of that software when you install 62615, otherwise these add-ons will not work. You can get the latest version of FSUIPC from the SimFlight forum at:

The player-visible contents of this update are:

  • Improvements for using modified Scenery.cfg files which could previously result in a 1007 error when installing new scenery add-ons. Please note due to the highly customisable nature of FSX: SE it is going to be impossible for us to attempt to deal with all forms of malformatting in the Scenery.cfg files. For this reason we have also provide an option to reset the Scenery.cfg file to the default version.
  • Fixed font file loading not being VFS-aware. Font files associated with add-ons should now work as expected.
  • Fixed multiplayer invites not working if you invite a friend to a Private game.
  • Improved mouse cursor slow-down over complex cockpits.Although we have made some optimizations to this code, players may still experience some reduction in framerates when using highly complex cockpit models. This is because such models are pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the game engine.
  • Improved optimisation of installing/uninstalling add-on content through the Steam platform.

Because this update includes changes to the way Steam optimises FSX:SE add-on content available from the Steam store, some add-on content you have purchased may also may reinstall. This means that the size of the update will vary depending upon how many Steam add-ons you have installed. If you are just running the core simulator without add-ons, your download will be approximately 22.9 MB. This may increase up to 4.0GB if you own all of our FSX: Steam Edition add-ons.

If you experience any issues, please contact our support team at

Thanks and happy flying!

Season 4 of iRacing’s 2015 season is only ten days away and now we know everything that is coming in next Tuesday’s build.

Dynamic tracks.  This isn’t the first dynamic track video from iRacing but this is the first one to confirm it’s release date; next week.  iRacing promises that dynamic tracks will completely change the way races pan out – and if it works like they say it will – I have no doubt that this will be the case.

The Corvette C7 Daytona Prototype will be the big piece of new content in next week’s build.  It replaces the extremely old Riley Daytona Prototype and will race in the IMSA challenge series as the sole prototype car.  It may be a basterdized prototype car – being a steel tubed car vs carbon monocoque – but it looks fantastic.

Also on the new/newish content side is the Xfinity Toyota Camry and updated Ford Mustang.  The Toyota will join the Mustang and Chevy Camaro in the Class B NASCAR series.

iRacing also let us peak at the release notes today which highlight a few other key additions that are coming to the sim.  First up is the Easy Anti Cheat software that should really clamp down on any cheating being done out there.

Another key update is the splitting of of multi-class fields.  In the past, if six prototype cars showed up for an IMSA race and there were 40 GT cars, the prototypes would be split up, three in one split, three in the next.  That’s not fun.  Now car classes are grouped together to increase competitors.  This would mean that the top split would have six prototypes and the bottom would have none.  Much better.

There are a few notable car updates.  First, a handful of cars get the newish PBR shaders.  These include the pace car and NASCAR licensed cars.  Second, all cars are now on the v6 tire model.  Lastly, the GT3 cars have received balance of performance (BOP) updates in preparation for the Season 4 Blancpain Endurance Series which will see the top teams transfer to the Blancpain GT World Championship team series next year.

The entire release notes can be seen at the bottom of this post.

And one more thing…  iRacing’s Tony Gardner took to his rarely updated “Cat Herder” blog to give the community some updates on future content.  Of interest is the new particle effect system that should be ready by December, a preview image of the Nurburgring, a shot of the New Tree Model – the other NTM – that will be unveiled with the Nurburgring and work on a new video codec that will allow you to directly export replays from the sim (nice).

That’s a lot of stuff going on.
